Objective
The aim of the course is to teach and train students in Ophthalmology and techniques of ophthalmology.

Eligibility

+2 with science subject or Pre Degree with Physics, Chemistry and Biology

Course Description
The course shall be conducted under department of Ophthalmology of the hospital

I.Anatomy:  
  Anatomy of the eye ball, ocular muscles, orbit, Lids and Incrimal apparatus.
Names of cranial nerves
 
   
II. Physiology of Vision:  
 Acuity of vision, color vision, Aqueous humor formation and circulation, Intra ocular pressure, Ocular movements and Binocular single vision, Accommodation and convergence.  
   
III. Physics of Optics:  
 Laws of reflection, refraction, spherical and cylindrical lenses, prisms- nomenclature and uses.  
   
IV. Microbiology:  
 Various organisms responsible for ocular diseases – Bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites etc., Smear, culture and staining  
   
V.
Pharmacy:  
  Ophthalmic drugs – uses, side effects 
   
VI.Vision testing: 
 Principles of vision testing, methods of vision testing- 
 - a. Distant vision 
 - b. Near vision 
 - c. Color vision 
 Retinoscopy and subjective testing of glasses 
   
VII.Optical system of normal and abnormal eyes: 
 Refractive errors-Myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism, presbyopia, aphakia.
   
 Contact lens, IOLs, measures of IPD, fitting, adjustment of spectacles, decentering, transposition, checking of glasses. 
 Accommodation and convergence – measurement and anomalies. 
   
 Common Eye diseases of- 
 Conjunctiva, cornea, aclera, uveal tract, lens, retina, optic nerve, orbit, lids + ladrimal apparatus, squint and amblyopia. 
   
 Glaucoma – Early detection 
 Measurement of Intraocular pressure, field charting, 
 Injuries - First aid 
 - Chemical 
  - Radiation
